Description

This name derives from the Ancient Greek name “Sóstratos (Σώστρατος)”, composed of two elements: “sôs (σῶς) sṓizō (σῴζω)” (save, saving, keep safe, rescue, unharmed, redeem) plus “stratós (στρατός)” (army, military force). In turn the name means “safe army”. 1) Sostratus was a Greek mythological hero, and a beloved of Heracles. He was from the ancient Achaean city of Dyme, held in veneration by its inhabitants. As recounted by Pausanias in his description of Dyme, on the side of a public road there was the tomb of Sostratus, which was commissioned by Hercules to honor his friend 2) Sostratus of Cnidus was a Greek architect and engineer. He designed the lighthouse of Alexandria, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World (c. 280 BC), on the island of Pharos off Alexandria, Egypt. 3) Sostratus of Pellene was an Ancient Greek athlete from Pellene, Achaea. He won the footrace for boys at the Ancient Olympic Games. He was the first Achaean to win at the Olympics since Oebotas of Dyme.

These sandals are very comfortable and perfect for everyday wear. They are handmade to order in Greece with high quality genuine leather by local craftsmen using traditional techniques. Natural leather may vary from light beige to light brown and it depends on the particular hide.

The tan colour leather gets darker when exposed to the sunlight, ageing gracefully and classically.

Wearing leather sandals in wet weather conditions is not recommended.

They fit true to size and come in full sizes only. If in-between sizes, we recommend sizing up.

They come with leather lining and insole and with a high resistant rubber anti-slippery outsole.
